Rhinos
and zebras haven’t been good friends in the wild so far. But, this seems to
happen at the Care For Wild
Rhino Sanctuary in South Africa where those 2 animals have become best
friends with a very strong relationship. We decided to share this news with you
since their bond is so captivating.
Though
unplanned, their meet-up was so helpful to each other. Daisy, the rhino calf
was admitted to the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary on 9th of December. 12 hour
old daisy was found at the Kruger National park by a rescue team and the chance
of life for her was less. But, her recovery after the rhino rescue started to
get accelerated with the meeting of her friend Zebra, Modjadji.
When it
comes to Modjadji, she was only one week old during her rescue. The poor zebra
was motionless and barely breathing on the reserve after heavy rains and
storms. However, soon after the encounter of both and the creation of an extra
special bond, both of them started to overcome their obstacles to survive.
“The
little zebra offers Daisy a lot of comfort,” said the sanctuary. “They are
incredibly gentle with each other and can be called a wonderful couple of
friends.”
Although
both the animals had a tough start, they now thrive quite successfully. They’ve
become inseparable now that we’d be able to see Modjadji following Daisy
wherever she goes.
“They
cuddle together at night, which gives Daisy comfort and security,” Bowker
shared. “[Modjadji] is a friend that can be with her 24/7, and this, in turn,
helps to prevent too much human contact with Daisy.”
Anyhow,
there will be a day where both Daisy and Modjadji will be released to roam with
rhinos and zebras and that day is not too far. For now they are bosom buddies.
