‘Giraffes
are amazing!’ That’s one thing that all of us can agree on. They are awesome
and known to be symbols of Africa thus can be seen everywhere.
The
naturally dressed giraffes are quite beautiful and attractive. But, here we
present you some special wild giraffe types; the white and black giraffes.
The black
melanistic giraffe:

Melanism
is the opposite of albinism and is known as a genetic disorder that makes
animals appear in unusual black colour.

Melanism,
though a disorder, is quite common in some animal species and they appear to be
normal among others. For example, the melanistic jaguar; the black panther.
Most of
the melanistic animals have a risk of getting killed during the young age due
to the lack of natural camouflage. Even it’s the same for melanistic jungle
giraffe types.

The White
Leucistic giraffe
Don’t you
get albinism in your mind once you see a white animal? This is true in most of
the cases. But, something special is that albinism affects the entire
pigmentation of the body including the eyes.
The white
giraffe has a similar disorder to albinism which is called leucism. This
disorder makes some pigments retain their original colour.

Watch the
video below to have a look at a rare scene of a white giraffe and her calf 2
years ago:
Anyhow,
only 1 white giraffe remains in the world by now. This is mainly due to
poaching. Another cause is the inability for these unique animals to thrive in
the wild.

These
pigment defects also indicate health issues such as weak immunity and skin
cancers.

What do
you think of these rare pigment defects on giraffes? Share your thoughts with
us. And also share this interesting piece of information with your loved ones
for them to improve what they know. Keep in touch to wear a smile everyday!
Happy trails until we meet again.
