Pudus are
known to be a species of small deer that is the same size as our pet dogs. They
are a kind of extremely cute animals that exist in the world.
Pudus are
of 2 types as Northern and Southern Pudus and both the types live in South
America.
The
Southern Pudu is a native animal to Chile and Argentina while the Northern Pudu
is native to Venezuela, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador.
The
height of the pudus ranges between 12 - 16 inches and this has helped them to
become the cutest deer group among all.
Like
other grazing animals, pudus too are vegetarian and feed on grasses, fruits,
leaves and seeds.
In case
if they want to reach foliage, they could stand on their hind limbs or they can
even climb the trees.
Though
small, Pudus are quite cautious and highly sensitive to the predators around
them. Pudus are so tactful that they run in a zigzag motion when they are
chased by any kind of a large predator.
Dare not to say that they are not good at
climbing and jumping because they are too small.
They are
most often seen in dense South American forests where they’ve developed their
own system of navigating the undergrowth of the forest.
Pudus are
solitary animals which can be seen together only during the mating season in
which they give birth to one or two offspring before the spring.
As to
show the relationship of the bigger deer cousins and the male pudus, the male
pudus bear a pair of antlers too.
The
normal lifespan of a pudu is upto 8 or 10 years. Yet, there’s a threat due to a
number of external factors such as diseases, parasites and loss of habitats.
