Check Out This Magical Earth Artwork By Andy Goldsworthy

The type of art created using the natural landscape or natural materials is called Land art or Earth art. The materials that are used can be rocks, soil, plants, wood, leaves, clay and other minerals.

Andy Goldsworthy is a renowned British sculptor who is the son of a mathematician. He's a specialist in the field of Earth art done by installing sticks and stones and everything else that he finds around. Even before his graduation with a BA from the University of Central Lancashire he was engaged in this as he grew up on a farm. He says that most of his art is like picking potatoes and the only thing that he has to do is to get into the rhythm of it.

The viewers feel that Goldsworthy’s land art often shows the fragility of the Earth while for him it's much more complicated.

"The art I make in a field or a street might vanish after some time. Yet it's added to the history of those places. My work was based on collapse and decay earlier. But, now I feel that those 2 words are not enough to describe some beautiful changes in my art. At Folkestone, I got up early one morning ahead of an incoming tide and covered a boulder in poppy petals. The scene was so peaceful as the sea gently washed away the petals, stripping the boulder and creating splashes of red in the sea. The harbor from which many troops left for war was in the background.”
